I bet you have heard about the famous quote from Zig Ziglar, “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.” And yes, if you want to be great, achieving your goals, and live an outstanding life, you need to start. But how do you do that? Well, best-selling author, Robin Sharma has a formula, called the 20/20/20 Rule.

We all know that if you want to make your day productive and maintain your motivation and momentum throughout the day, you need to start your morning in the right way.

In Chinese, there is a saying, “A year’s plan starts with spring and a day’s plan starts with morning.” In other words, it is saying that your morning sets the pace of your entire day.

If you want to do great and have high productivity, you must make sure you start your morning strong. When your morning is good, you will do good the whole day.

However, when you start your morning with a lousy mood, guess what, it will affect your day. Your productivity will be affected and so with your performance.

This is why how you start your morning matters.

According to this article from Verywellmind.com, it says that morning routine helps us set the tone for the day, better allowing us to control our schedules rather than our schedule controlling us.

Thus, learn to master your morning, and you will master your day. And if you can master your day, you can master your year, hence, mastering your life.

This is where Robin Sharma’s 20/20/20 Rule comes into play. I learned about this rule from Sir Robin Sharma’s book, The 5 AM Club. It is a simple yet profound rule that helps to jumpstart your day with productivity.

What you need to do is to invest 60 minutes every day for your personal preparation…

Invest 20 Minutes for Intense Exercise

Yes, kickstart your day with intense exercise. I believe you know that exercise is one of the most important activities you can practice to improve not just your physical fitness, but also boost your mental power.

When you exercise and make your body sweat, your brain releases endorphins that make you feel great, and BDNF, a brain chemical that grows your neural connection.

As Robin Sharma says, “Sweat more in training and you’ll bleed less in war.”

Therefore, after you wake up, spend 20 minutes for intense exercise. It will make you feel great, strengthen your mental power, and also prepare you for what’s coming in the day.

Invest the Next 20 Minutes to Plan and Reflect Your Goals

Clarity is power. When you know what you need to do during the day, you don’t have to wait for things to happen. You can go and make things happen.

In other words, you become proactive rather than reactive. Most people are not achieving much in life because they are living a reactive life. They always wait for things to happen to them rather than making things happen.

Knowing what you want to accomplish in life and setting your direction clear in the morning allows you to start your day with a specific action plan.

Doing so allows you to focus on your priorities and maintain your level of productivity throughout the day.

So, use the next 20 minutes to reflect on your dreams, review your goals, and plan your day.

Invest the Last 20 Minutes for Learning

If you want to experience growth, you need to commit yourself to learn. If you don’t learn, you don’t grow. Learning can be as simple as reading or listening to a helpful podcast.

The key is that most people don’t have additional time for learning. They are always busy and are always distracted by whatever things that are happening around them.

This is what makes morning learning one of the best routines to develop. If you always find yourself busy and have no time for reading, then do it in the morning. When the rest of the world is still sleeping and no one is there to disturb you, you can learn with full focus.

Most successful people like Elon Musk, Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, Mark Cuban, etc., commit to reading and learning.

The more you learn, the more you know, and the more places you can go.

Conclusion

How you start your morning can impact your day. And if you want to have a great day, start your morning at the right pace. When your morning is great, you will do great for the day. And when your day is great, your weeks, months, and years will be great.

It all started with your morning. Hence, practice the 20/20/20 Rule. Kickstart your day with 20 minutes of exercise, 20 minutes of planning, and 20 minutes of learning.

Do it for a year and you will notice how this simple rule can change your life for the better.
